Bush Administration, U.S.-China relations have remained unusually smooth and stable. But U.S. policy toward China now appears to be subject to competing reassessments. State Department officials late in 2005 unveiled what they described as a new policy framework for the relationship -- one in which the United States was willing to work cooperatively with a non-democratic China while encouraging Beijing to become a \"responsible stakeholder\" in the global system. Other U.S. policymakers appear to be adopting somewhat tougher stances on issues involving China and U.S.-China relations, expressing their concerns about strong PRC economic growth and a more assertive and influential PRC diplomacy in the international arena.", "type": "CRS Report", "typeId": "REPORT", "active": false, "formats": [ { "format": "PDF", "filename": "files/20060608_RL32804_18b0665e1242a410c55a41ac17894e3f99b2b721.pdf" }, { "format": "HTML", "filename": "files/20060608_RL32804_18b0665e1242a410c55a41ac17894e3f99b2b721.html" } ], "topics": [ { "source": "LIV", "id": "Foreign policy", "name": "Foreign policy" }, { "source": "LIV", "id": "Foreign relations - U.S. - China", "name": "Foreign relations - U.S. - China" }, { "source": "LIV", "id": "Foreign relations - China - U.S.", "name": "Foreign relations - China - U.S." } ] }, { "source": "University of North Texas Libraries Government Documents Department", "sourceLink": "https://digital.library.unt.edu/ark:/67531/metacrs8271/", "id": "RL32804 2006-01-20", "date": "2006-01-20", "retrieved": "2006-02-24T12:04:13", "title": "China-U.S. Relations: Current Issues and Implications for U.S. Policy", "summary": "The bilateral relationship between the U.S. and the People's Republic of China (PRC) is vitally important, touching on a wide range of areas including, among others, economic policy, security, foreign relations, and human rights.
