In the first half of 2018, approximately 22 million barrels per day (bpd) of crude oil, condensate, and petroleum products, and over 300 million cubic meters per day in liquefied natural gas (LNG) exited the Strait, representing approximately 24% and 3% of global production, respectively.\nWith the U.S. withdrawal from the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA) on May 8, 2018, there may be increased potential for Congress to consider legislation regarding sanctions on Iran. A number of bills, mostly prior to the May 8 withdrawal, have been introduced in the 115th Congress targeting aspects of Iran\u2019s leadership, military, and economy. It remains uncertain whether reinstated U.S. sanctions based on the U.S. unilateral exit from the JCPOA will damage Iran\u2019s economy to the extent sanctions did during 2012-2015, when the global community was aligned in pressuring Iran.", "type": "CRS Report", "typeId": "REPORTS", "active": true, "formats": [ { "format": "HTML", "encoding": "utf-8", "url": "http://www.crs.gov/Reports/R45281", "sha1": "b557013f1f683d506eb31abd57091f3526d2fa35", "filename": "files/20180806_R45281_b557013f1f683d506eb31abd57091f3526d2fa35.html", "images": { "/products/Getimages/?directory=R/html/R45281_files&id=/0.png": "files/20180806_R45281_images_883e8c50e75dd91a9dc3c6adf733f8de41d5797a.png" } }, { "format": "PDF", "encoding": null, "url": "http://www.crs.gov/Reports/pdf/R45281", "sha1": "068bc930c7c9af82269d41604b219d89990b7a48", "filename": "files/20180806_R45281_068bc930c7c9af82269d41604b219d89990b7a48.pdf", "images": {} } ], "topics": [ { "source": "IBCList", "id": 4758, "name": "Middle East & North Africa" }, { "source": "IBCList", "id": 4813, "name": "International Energy & Natural Resource Issues" } ] } ], "topics": [ "Energy Policy" ] }
